Do you accept all ages?
Yes — we see patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. We provide cradle-to-grave family healthcare.
Do I need a referral to see you?
No referral is required. As a general practice, you can consult us directly. We will refer you to specialists when clinically necessary.

Medical Aid & Billing

Which medical aids do you accept?
We are registered with most major South African medical aids, including Discovery, Medshield, Bonitas, Momentum Health, KeyCare (Discovery), Fedhealth, Sizwe, CompCare, and others. Please confirm with our billing staff at the time of booking.
Do you offer cash/private consultations?
Yes. Private/cash patients are welcome. Fees are based on the SAMA (South African Medical Association) or AMA coding system. Payment is expected at the time of consultation. We issue a receipt for medical aid claim submission.
What is your billing policy?
See our full Billing Policy page at swartlandmedical.co.za/billing. We bill according to current ICD-10 coding and medical aid tariff schedules. Patients are responsible for any shortfall not covered by their medical aid.
Do you offer credit terms or payment plans?
Payment plans may be arranged in exceptional circumstances. Speak to our billing administrator. Please note: consultation fees are generally payable at the time of service.

Dispensing & Chronic Medication

What is a dispensing practice?
A dispensing practice is a licensed medical practice that is authorised to dispense medications directly to patients — similar to a pharmacy but operated by the medical practice itself. You can collect your prescription from us without needing to visit a separate pharmacy.
Can I get my chronic medication refill without a consultation?
Established patients with stable, well-controlled chronic conditions can request a chronic refill online via our Chronic Refill Request form. Your doctor will review the request. Some patients may be required to come in for a consultation, particularly if blood results are due or the condition has changed.
How far in advance should I request a refill?
Please request your refill at least 3–5 business days before you run out. This allows time for doctor review and dispensary preparation.
Do you stock all medications?
We stock a comprehensive range of generic and originator medications. If a specific medication is not in stock, we will advise you and can issue a script for you to collect elsewhere.

Child Health & Vaccines

Do you follow the South African EPI (immunisation) schedule?
Yes. We follow the South African Department of Health's Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) schedule, which includes free vaccines for all eligible children. We also offer additional private vaccines not on the EPI schedule.
I've lost my Road to Health Booklet — can you reissue it?
We can help recreate your child's vaccination records from our clinical records. Please contact our reception to arrange this.
Can I get my child vaccinated without a full consultation?
Vaccinations can be administered at a scheduled baby/child clinic visit or nursing appointment. Please discuss with our reception when booking.

Privacy & POPIA

How do you protect my personal information?
We comply fully with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Your personal and medical information is stored securely, used only for healthcare purposes, and never shared with third parties without your consent — except where required by law or for your clinical care.
Can I access my medical records?
Yes. You have the right to access your medical records. Please make a formal written request to our practice manager. Some administrative costs may apply. Records will be provided within a reasonable timeframe in accordance with POPIA.
Do you share my information with my medical aid?
Medical aid claims are submitted with the relevant clinical coding required for payment. You consent to this when using your medical aid. We do not share any additional information beyond what is required for billing.
