Why Swartland Medical

Your Trusted Medical Home

For over 20 years, Swartland Medical Centre has been the healthcare home for families in Malmesbury and the surrounding Swartland community.

Specialist Family Physicians

Two of our four doctors are registered as Family Physicians with the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) β€” the highest level of family medicine specialisation in South Africa.

In-House Dispensing

As a licensed dispensing practice, we provide prescription medications directly from our practice. Collect your acute and chronic medications in one convenient visit.

Continuity of Care

We believe in long-term therapeutic relationships. Your doctor knows your history, your family, and your health goals β€” from your first visit to your golden years.

Multidisciplinary Centre

Beyond general consultations, we offer nursing/clinic services, specialist outreach clinics, minor surgical procedures, and allied healthcare coordination.

Evidence-Based Medicine

Every clinical decision is grounded in current medical evidence and best practice guidelines from SAMF, SEMDSA, and international bodies.

Accessible & Available

Open Mon–Fri 8:00–17:00 and Saturdays 8:00–12:00. Online booking, telemedicine, and phone consultations extend our reach across the Swartland.

Our Medical Team

Exceptional Doctors at Every Level

Our practice brings together General Practitioners and Specialist Family Physicians β€” a team built to give you the right doctor for every need.

General Practitioner (GP)
MBChB β€” 6-year medical degree

GPs are fully qualified medical doctors β€” experienced, caring, and capable across the full breadth of primary healthcare. They handle acute illness, urgent consultations, everyday health concerns, and are an essential part of any well-functioning medical practice.

  • Acute illness & same-day consultations
  • Preventive care & wellness checks
  • Referrals and clinical coordination
  • Full scope of everyday primary care

Specialist Family Physician
MBChB + MMed Family Medicine β€” 10 years training

A Specialist Family Physician carries all the strengths of a GP β€” and builds on them with an additional 4-year specialist postgraduate degree in Family Medicine. This makes them uniquely equipped for complex, chronic, and multi-system health challenges.

  • Everything a GP offers, plus specialist depth
  • Complex chronic disease management (SEMDSA/SAMF guidelines)
  • BHF specialist registration & specialist tariff codes
  • Lifelong, whole-family therapeutic relationships
Additional Specialist Training

On top of the 6-year MBChB degree, a Specialist Family Physician completes a further 4-year MMed (Family Medicine) β€” the highest postgraduate qualification in primary care.

BHF Specialist Registration

Registered with the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) as a specialist β€” which means access to specialist tariff codes and typically broader medical aid benefit coverage for patients.

Complex & Chronic Condition Expertise

Deep expertise in managing complex multi-system chronic conditions β€” diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, respiratory illness and more β€” in line with the latest SEMDSA, SAMF and international guidelines.

Lifelong Family Relationships

A Specialist Family Physician is trained not just to treat illness, but to know the whole person β€” their family context, life stage, and long-term health trajectory, from childhood through to old age.

Swartland Medical Centre is home to both General Practitioners and Specialist Family Physicians β€” giving you access to the right expertise at every stage of your health journey.

Dr Beukes and Dr Nel hold specialist BHF registration as Family Physicians.
